As a part of the Product Management team, the job of the Product Specialist is to devise products and then propose investment schemes to a client base that tend to be large institutions. A large part of this position involves analysing clients' needs and co-ordinating them with existing services and products. Yet it is up to the Product Manager to see if products or services can be modified or created, in order to maximise the levels of investment and returns.
An in depth understanding of risk and risk management is very important as is an interest in marketing. The Product Specialist often has to intervene, giving advice about how the product should be presented. He must also meet with clients, in order to present a product and give research results.
The Product Specialist should have a financial background with good knowledge of financial asset management, taxes, shares and derivatives. Thorough, creative and good at co-ordinating different types of information, he or she has to have a good marketing sense as well as the ability to excel in the framework of a team.
