The bank of a changing world

I am in charge of the management and development of high-tech and information technology projects in the Bank's International Corporate Finance business line. This project concerns the development of an international monetary system. I am in charge of drawing up and developing the project, I work with external services that are also involved in the project, and I ensure that they are properly trained.
For this, my role is of an extremely managerial nature. I organise and co-ordinate the work of the team, delegating and sharing out tasks, and fundamentally making sure that there is a good work environment. This position also involves a certain degree of technical savoir-faire, as I actively participate in the project by doing the programming myself.
I have a significant amount of responsibility. I have to manage a budget, a team of 10 - 20 people and monitor client - supplier relations. The technical side of the job is similarly very important. I am constantly using my skills, but I always try and remain ahead of the game, keeping up with new technology and so on. One has to be creative. I also get to travel quite a lot, which is both engaging and enjoyable, even though it is business and not pleasure...
Of course, Technical Knowledge is very important in a position of this nature. I graduated with a degree in IT. But, as far as qualities are concerned, one has to have good interpersonal skills in order to be an effective team-leader. One also has to know how to organise oneself, so that one can adapt to any changes that may occur in the course of the project, whilst remaining available to all members of the team. I have to remain dynamic, flexible and ready to go anywhere at the drop of a hat.
I hope to take up a position as head of I.T. in one of our foreign offices, or, if not, become head of Functional Project Operations in the Corporate and Investment Banking business line.
