The bank of a changing world

It is quite difficult to describe my job in day to day terms, because each day is different, due to the wide range of tasks that I am responsible for. My role is mainly one of administration and management. We have to integrate profitability measures, and set up databases for following relationships within the bank, so that we can have easy access to all of our client's information. This makes analysis far easier too, allowing opportunities to be identified.
I also recruit people whose talents and personalities complement each other, and who will bring added value to the team. My role is organisational. I am always looking to increase efficiency and improve operations. It is total quality management.
It is undoubtedly the diversity. My job involves many different tasks, all of a completely different nature. It means that I don't ever have what one may call a typical day. After the BNP and Paribas merger, we had to build the FIG team and looking at what FIG has now become is extremely rewarding. I also relish the opportunity to develop my managerial and leadership skills. I enjoy having responsibility and this position is hopefully the next step before moving into a fully managerial role.
I graduated from a top French technical engineering school, where my studies were focused on IT and telecom. I began my career with BNP Paribas in Financial Administration, which involved dealing with the structure of the Group, analysing the group accounts and presenting them to rating agencies and analysts. After this position I then turned more towards corporate and investment banking, being head of insurance in Corporate Finance.
I believe that the qualities, which are required for this position, are versatility and adaptability. One has to be able to treat any of a wide range of subjects with the same level of expertise as the next. One has to deal with the diversity of the job, which means adapting to new situations and reacting to them as quickly as possible. Similarly, good interpersonal skills and a high level of confidence are also important.
My next step, I hope, would be to manage my own team.
